Hello everybody
I have two pc. One has a harddisk failure so that i can't start
windows anymore. The disk is irreparable with the windows xp cd.

I would like to save some of the files that are still on this disk.
How can i "connect" the two pc to save them? Through the USB port??

Anyone an idea? Thanks in advance.
Hector

You'd be better off taking the hard drive out, and popping it in as a slave
drive in your good computer. Far easier to work with imho.

It would be easier to connect to the secondary IDE.
Disconnect the CD/DVD.
You won't have to mess with the hard drive jumpers.
The drive doesn't have to be mounted in the computer case.
Just don't let the bottom of the drive touch the case.

Using your good PC you can burn a Live-CD containing the MEPIS version of
Linux and boot up the broken computer from its CD drive. Then, under Linux,
'mount' the broken Windows hard drive and copy files from it to a USB flash
drive. Move the flash drive to the good machine.

I know Linux may seem formidable, but I recently tried this MEPIS version
and it booted right up without problems on my laptop so it might be worth it
to you if you're not a hardware type. Find MEPIS at
http://www.mepis.org/mirrors
