Most users do the reverse of what youre trying (tv & or analog movie to pc),
not pc movie to tv..Either way, what type of connection is being used..Also,
how are you playing the pc movie, thru the dvd player, try loading the movie
from dvd to new folder on the pc,play back the file from folder, not the
dvd player.

I have a lot of movies on the pc, both as DVD files and AVI files.
I am using a S-video cable and it is working perfect . The desktop and
everything I do on the computer is shown on the tv (an analog tv). But as
soon as I e.g. start a media player (microsoft, Nero or what ever player I
try), there is just a black square where the movi should have been shown.

You have to enable "overlays"
Identify your graphics card
Visit the site
Click the support/help link
Locate the support/FAQ for your specific model
follow instructions to enable overlays
(an "overlay" is a media player overlaid on desktop
screen)
