Hi,
I'm trying to connect an Outollok 2000 that is in a subnet 192.168.1.* with
a Exchange 2000 in the subnet 192.168.2.*.
When the outlook asks me to enter the name and user, I verify it and it's
ok. But when the outlook try to syncronyse with the exchange server it
returns me the following error (in portuguese): "Não é possivel abrir as suas
pastas predefinidas de correio electrónico. Tem de estabelecer ligação com o
computador do Microsoft Exchange Server com o perfil actual antes de poder
sicronizer as suas pastas com o ficheiro de pasta offline.". The translation
may be "It's not possible to open the default folders. You must connect with
the MS Exchange Server with the actual profile before you be able to
syncronize the folders with the offline file".
After this, the Outlook closes.
What have I to do to make this working?
Thanks for your help,
Paulo

What subnet mask are you using for each network segment? (e.g. 255.255.0.0
or 255.255.255.0. Reason that I ask is that if you are using that later
[255.255.255.0] then there has to be a route between the two. For example,
can you ping the Exchange server by name and by ip address? Can you use
nbtstat -a name_of_server and nbtstat -A ip_address_of_server and get valid
answers?)

We have a VPN between the 2 locals, and the subnet mask we use is
255.255.255.0.
I made also a route between the local computer IP (192.168.1.*, mask
255.255.255.0) and the other subnet (192.168.2.0).
With these configurations, I can only ping the and get a valid answer on
nbtstat command, with the server IP. With the server name I have no answer.
But, when the outlook asks me the server name, I put there the server IP and
user, and when I click on verify, it translates the IP to the server name.
So, I think that there is no problem with resolving the names between the 2
subnets.

You have a DNS/WINS name resolution issue between the two sites. For
example, put the name of the Exchange & Domain Controllers in the
hosts/lmhosts files and you will see what I mean.
