I have a hard wired network at home that has a Linksys
router which connect to the Internet. It has been working
fine for several years. I just got a new computer and
when I plugged it into the router, my Internet connection
worked fine, but I want it to be part of my four computer
home network.

I ran the Network Setup Wizard to set up the new computer
on the existing network. In the "Select a Connection
Method" dialog box, I checked the second option, "
connect to the internet through a residential gateway"

Next it says that I have multiple connections, and I let
it chose the appropriate connection.

Next I gave my new computer an appropriate name.

Next I named the network MSHOME (this is the name of the
existing Network for my current 3 machines)

Now it says that is ready to apply the network setting
which all reflect the above information. It also tells me
that the Shared Documents and printers on the new machine
will be shared. I click next and it does its thing.

Next it says we are almost done. I chose the last option
on this wizard screen, "Just finish the wizard. I don't
need to run the wizard on other computers" My thinking is
that I have a fully function network already.

Next it say I was successful and to click finish.

When I click on "View workgroup computers" in the "My
Network Places", I get the following error message,

"Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission
to use the network resource. Contact the network
administrator of this server if you have access
permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available."

When I go to a computer that is on the existing network
and click on "View workgroup computers" in the "My Network
Places", I do see my new computer name there, but when I
click on it , it says,

"(new computer name) is not accessible. You might not
have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
network administrator of this server if you have access
permissions.

The network path was not found."

.... is not accessible

Message: "....is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. Network path was not found."

Resolutions:
1) make sure no any firewall running.
2) make sure you have created the same workgroup, and the same username on
w2k/xp for logging on a remote computer.
3) check user's rights.
4) you may want to enable guest account on w2k/xp.
5) if you are using simple file sharing, you may try to disable it and
re-share the drive manually.
6) if it is mixed OS (win98, NT, ME and W2K/XP) network, enable NetBIOS over
TCP/IP.
7) make sure the Computer Browser service is started if all computers are
w2k/xp.
8) stop Computer Browser service on win9x, ME and NT if this is a mixed OS
network.
9) cache credential by using net use \\computername\share /user:username
command (it is better to have the username logon shared computer).
10) if you have tried enabling netbios over tcp/ip but doesn't work, you may
try to load netbeui (loading netbeui may slow your network).
11) Make sure the server service is running.
12) If you can see the share in Network Neighborhood but not access it, this
issue may be resolved by verifying that both the share permissions and the
NTFS partition permissions are correctly configured for individual user or
group access.

Your first suggestion solved the problem. I was running
Norton Internet Security Professional 2004. Once I
disabled that, I saw my entire network, Now I will have
to configure the firewall for my network. Thanks
