Any serial port controller card that you can set up with free IRQs and I/O
ranges should work in any operating system. Adding 4 serial ports through
expansion cards is an undertaking of much patience, moderate swearing, and
some degree of alcohol consumption, but if you can get them working on a
hardware level, then the O/S should use them normally.
The problem that has recently arisen with this approach, though, is that
most of these serial controllers are ISA bus cards, and most recent
motherboards don't have these ISA slots. SIIG makes jumperable PCI serial
cards, which you can pick up at Compusa or similar, and are very
configurable.
