confused about start-up programs

I know some of the programs starting up are slowing things down a bit.
But when I go to Start-Up through msconfig, I'm unsure what these
programs are... their names being unfamiliar. Is there a place that
identifies program names and could help me figure out what should and
what should not be in the start-up line? TIA

Some programs will be shown in the task bar, their properties may have an
option not to load on startup.
msconfig also shows path name, which should give a clue. Or search for the
process name, in IE, then use the properties of the file for further clues.
Assuming you have an AV app, there are likely to be many entries for this
shown.

Yes... I'm aware of the wonders of Google. The problem is that programs,
even when found on Google, still tend to hide themselves in nomenclature
that is accessible only for the Geeks among us. Thus I was looking for
something a bit more substantive than the no-brainer Google answer. But
thanks for taking the time to type those twelve letters.
