Alright...I have imported all my clips without trouble. I have my movie
completely made including text, transitions and credits. I simply need to
know is there anything special I need to know about my movie before I burn it
to DVD. Isn't WMM a tool to help you create a DVD movie from digital clips?

Does it matter what format my clips are in? Everything plays fine, but my
final saved project will not play in windows media player. Is this a sign of
trouble ahead?

Finally, once your movie is made...is there a general rule of thumb as to
what kind of DVD you save your project on. In other words does WMM only
create your DVD on one type of burnable DVD?

WMM is a tool for 'editing' video...not
for authoring DVDs.

Yes, the format matters. Your project file
would be in the .mswmm format and is
only recognized by Windows Movie Maker.

If you go to...File / Save Movie File...or type...
Ctrl / P...you can save in a video format.
That would be .wmv or .avi.

Have a look at the following article:

did you save the movie??? the player doesn't use the project file...

Movie Maker, with few exceptions, doesn't make DVDs or other discs that play
in stand-alone DVD players.... you shouldn't expect any Movie Maker issues,
but you need to use DVD authoring/creating software.
