If a Disk came with my Dell computer, then Yes I should still have it.
If not - and because of un installing them I CAN use my drive again, I can always buy something. I was kind of worrid about not having it, and not wanting to use the Nero again and then being Without a program to burn stuff, but... With out a drive they dont do me much good - well actually my CDRW drive does work, but it won' hold much, nor do the disks work well with other DVD players (which was the first issue I started having -since I knew nothing about any of it) As I'm sure you know Not All players read All Disks. Once you uninstall both programs do a Search for nero and recordnow.
Delete any appropriate files found. Look in C:\Program Files and delete their Folders if still there. Then go to Start>Run type: regedit click Ok and Navigate to HKey_Current_User\Software and delete the Nero and RecordNow folders if there. Same with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software. Restart the Computer. Then I would retry the Nero Software that came with the Dvd Drive. Nero is very good as is Roxio. You should be able to restore the computer to a point before you installed
Nero and get rid of it that way. The restore you already did was apparently to a point after Nero was installed, so it got put back on but was only partially recovered. Re-installing Nero then uninstalling it again is another way that should get rid of the unwanted files and drivers. Reboots required at each step. FWIW, I have both Nero and RecordNow on this computer without having any problems, but both are slightly older versions (Nero 6, RecordNow 7) and that could be the difference. I thought I did restore it to that point - it did go away, but my drive still
didnt work. I also un-installed Nero but that didnt do it either. Somewhere along the line I read they had some kind of conflicts - with the driver or nero's virtual drive (direct CD ??) I think I too have Nero 6 and RecordNow 7 or 7.1 - I'm thinking now that un-installing both of them is not going to get my drive to work again, but I am going to try it today. Hoping atleast by uninstalling them both it will stop further issues they might cause. Thanks and I'll let you know. Hmmm,,, seems to me that Direct CD is the UDF burning/reading software for
CDRWs that belongs to the older Roxio/Adaptec EasyCd Creator software. It could be the cause of your problems. The reader portion of DirectCD can be installed automatically/accidentally from any UDF formatted disks that were made with the Roxio/Adaptec software. Having that UDF reader/writing program installed can certainly conflict with either or both of Nero and RecordNow, especially if you also have their version of UDF reading/burning program installed. Nero's UDF burning application is called InCD. RecordNow uses, or did use, an app called DLA (Drive Letter Access) to do the same thing. These are all UDF burning applications for CDRWs that run as TSRs on your computer. They all do basically the same thing, format (and write to) CDRW disks so that you can use them like floppy discs, but AFAIK the discs they make are not compatible with each other's systems. You should not have more than one of these installed on the computer. Ok Rich, Here is what I have done in the last 2 hours-
Uninstalled Nero -rebooted, Went into registry and deleted File named Nero, also deleted file named Ahead (as not only had it been suggested before but the folder had Nero stuff in it) Though Ahead was not in my Programs to start with. Nero had a folder called Shared, in that there were Lots of different things - deleted it too. rebooted. Went back and tried to uninstalled Sonic Recordnow, There were 3 different programs, I couldn't uninstall the sonic DLA (said something about uninstalling the others first and then rebooting - or maybe that was where it said you have to reboot now - or manually - so I waited) Uninstalled the other two - then rebooted. Back to uninstall, but it still would not let me uninstall the sonic DLA- said A network error occurred while attempting to read from file C:\windows\installer\RNENG.msi - Then said fatal error during installation. Back to registry (Roxie is NOT the same as Sonic Record now is it? - some reason thought it was - but didn't touch it) Deleted the whole file named Sonic, including the 3 files Direct Access, Recordnow And registration. Rebooted. Back to programs to try the DLA again, still wouldn't let me uninstall it. Went to programs (Not control panel add and remove) I deleted it there, but it Still won't let me uninstall it. And My DVDRW drive still wont recognize any disks.... (don't know anything about what drivers do, Hope what I deleted wasn't needed for anything else's??) Appreciating your tying to help me And your time, Liz "buddyorliz" wrote: > Will try - > Thanks > > "Rich Barry" wrote: > > > Once you uninstall both programs do a Search for nero and recordnow. > > Delete any appropriate files found. not working properly you may click here to re-install. Which I did not do.
