If, as I suspect, this is a dot matrix printer, or an older inkjet printer,
You should try changing the parallel port mode in BIOS to SPP or
bi-directional instead of EPP or ECP. A reboot should load the correct
driver configuration for the port. A few printers may also require that you
re-install (remove first) the printer drivers if this is the case.
