Conflict between Outlook 2003 and 2007

I have been running Office 2003 on an XP system for some time. I have also
been running Visio 2007. In looking to re-claim some disk space, I
uninstalled Visio 2007 which caused a mis-match for MAPI32.DLL when trying to
open an O2003 application.

Since I am a dumb *H@# and can't locate my O2003 install disks, I can't find
out how to repair the mis-matched dll file by using the Detect and Repair
function.

I downloaded and tried to install O2007 but Outlook 200 didn't install
because Outlook 2003 is still installed because I don't want to lose all old
emails and contacts.

Can someone please tell me where to find out how to fix my problem?

Thanks

You won't lose your old emails and contacts with the upgrade. Follow
Gordon's instructions and you should be able to install just fine.

Rename the MAPI32.DLL file to, say, MAPI32.OLD, then run any Office 2003
application and click Help>Detect and Repair.

Firstly, uninstalling Outlook does NOT (under normal circumstances) affect
any data, although it's prudent to make a backup anyway.
Secondly, AFAIK (I may be wrong), the install of Office 2003 puts a folder
called MSOCache on your system for exactly this purpose - so you don't need
the disks to make a repair.

Duh - 'Gordon's instructions?" What does that mean, Ben?

Unless the person installing disabled that option.

Brian - I tried that, but can't run any office 2003 applications...

True but I've found that most people just nod the defaults through when
installing...
