Is there a secret for configuring WinMail to import Newsgroups from services
external to Microsoft? Comcast customers use GigaNews but I have been
unsuccessful connecting with WinMail.

Visit Comcast's web site or phone for the correct addresses.
Tools>Accounts>Add>News

GigaNews is not mentioned here:

which gives the news server name as netnews.comcast.net.

news.comcast.giganews.com

I guess it depends where you are on Comcast, here it's simply newsgroups.Comcast.net
