After a power failure, I am getting a message stating ATA device not found.
I have reinstalled the driver for the RAID controller. Can I go ahead and
reconfigure my RAID without affecting files on my hard drive?

Larry,

All my experience is with SCSI RAID configurations. But, if you are
running RAID5 and reconfigure, you will probably loose everything.

After reinstalling the driver, you will usually need to do enter your RAID
configuration, then rebuild to load the ROM (or Flash) memory on the raid
board with the configuration of your drives.

I can't be of more help without the name of your card manufacturer and the
configuration (e.g. RAID 1,3 or 5). If you are running a simple mirror RAID
1, you are probably OK. If you are running RAID5, then you are in danger of
loosing everything. Also, there is also a chance with the power failure
that one of your hard drives has failed so you will have to test each one.
If your RAID card is any good at all this should happen when you try to
rebuild.

Your RAID card should have had a battery backup to maintain the
configuration. Also, you should never run a RAID sys without a UPS and a
spare drive. If you don't have a recent backup, then you can't chance any
trial and error; I suggest that you contact the folks who manufactured your
RAID board and perhaps spend a few bucks and hire a local professional to
help you.

Be real careful.
