hi,
I am trying to configure "Alcatel Speed Touch USB ADSL PPP" adapter as a
PORT in Routing and Remote Access Server. The purpose is to enable NAT to
access internet on win2k Pro client. I can see the above device in Port
properties, but the moment I configure it for "Demand-dial routing
connections(inbound and outbound), and save, I get the following error
message.
//quote
The port information cannot be saved
Cannot complete this function
(800703eb)
//unquote

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Venunair,

1) uninstall all modems in control panel, modems.

2) follow Q241257 and delete all ghosted com ports and ghosted modems.

3) go into regedt32 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root
and look for the Modem subkey. That key should not exist if you don't have any
modems installed in Control Panel, modems. If it's there, delete it.

4) also go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-
11CE-BFC1-0
8002BE10318} and delete the remaining 000x keys. A system with no modems installed
doesn't have any subfolders installed there like 0000 or 0001. Again, delete those
000x regkeys.

5) go back into control panel, modems and install the modem on one of the
com ports. Should now work fine in rras and can change the properties on the port in rras.

If the above doesn't resolve your issue, suggest contacting Acatel for support of their device.

Hope this helps,
Gary
