configuring outlook in terminal server environment for default pro

I am trying to configure outlook 2003 such that when users logon they won't
have to type in their profile settings. I have read that you type in
%username% and then that will fix it but I get an error when i logon remotely
saying can't recognize username. Can somebody help and point me in the right
direction? thanks.
