I've inherited a win 2000 server which is a DNS server andin a domain, 2 XP
pro clients need access to internet,

what are the process of configuring those clients to access internet?

also, one laptop already receives internet via its wireless card, but the
other two xp machines don't get any internet, that's puzzling me, is there
any permissions that's needed on their profile.
Internet connection goes from router to network switch
both machines have static IP address pulled from server, is it because
they're not getting an IP address from router's DHCP?
Any help is appreciated.

What is the error you get when trying to get to the Internet?

Usually this is DNS related.

There is no difference in client configurations for domain members vs.
workgroup.

No. Not unless there's some policy that is keeping the TCP/IP
Configuration from being changed.

Huh? A Dynamic IP address is obtained from a DHCP server. A static IP
address is configured manually on the client. The DHCP server could be a
router or a Windows DHCP server. If your clients are getting their IP
addresses from the Windows server and the settings for your LAN are
different than what the DHCP server is handing out, it won't work.

, is it because

IF you want to maintain the domain status, you'll need to change the
Server's IP address to be on the same network as your Internet router
and configure a default gateway. Make sure the server lists only itself
as it's DNS server. Change the DHCP scope to hand out addresses on the
correct subnet, and make sure you change the DNS server option in the
DHCP scope options to hand out the NEW IP address of the server and the
router option to give ou the address of your Internet gateway.
