We recently changed our phone service to Broadband with our cable company (who
also supplies the broadband cable connection for our computer) I can no longer
send a fax. Tech Support told me that I need to configure the fax program to
send as "DATA" for sending instead of sending as a phone fax. I can't find where
to do this. I am using the fax utility that is installed with Windows XP Home
.... Can someone tell me where to change this information?

Thanks

You must use a conventional telephone line attached to
your computer's modem. You cannot fax with broadband.

Carey ... Thanks for your response ... I do have a conventional telephone line
attached to the computer from a phone jack, but the fax program is not receiving
a dial tone. I was told by Atlantic Broadband (who is my telephone provider)
that the fax program has to be set to send as DATA. Is there a way i can set
this information in the fax program that is installed in Windows XP? I was told
I can set this option in WinFax but I don't send enough faxes to warrant
purchasing a new fax program.

I wonder if I've been given incorrect information by Atlantic Broadband. They
claim that I should still be able to send a fax with their service.

You need to get that information from them. If you have lost the function of
a normal phone (you can't use a normal telephone) then you can't fax
either. If you still have the normal line then the fax/modem should be
plugged in the same side of the filter as the 'phone not the side of the
filter that your ADSL modem/router is connected. It shouldn't be a problem
as I can still use dial-up internet through my modem and use fax where the
data is faster than the fax data.
