I am trying to use my prepaid MCI phone card for my faxing needs. I go into
"Contol Panel/Phone and Modem Options/Dialing Rules>New" to set up a "New
Location". I then click on the "Calling Card" tab and proceed to set up a new
card option relative to my calling card.
I enter calling card name and PIN number in the appropriate fields. I don't
have an account #. I then click on the "Long Distance" tab and enter the
Access phone number. I then proceed to the "calling card dialing steps".
So here is how I use my card on a standard long distance phone call:
1 - Use an 800 number to access the process
2 - Tells me choose " 1 " for English
3 - Then asks me for my "PIN" number
4 - Tells me to enter my country code #, which is 1
5 - Tells me to enter area code and phone number
Here is how I setup the calling card dialing steps
1 - Access Number - Because there is a 4 or 5 second pause here I then
insert a
2 - Wait 4 seconds pause
3 - Dial 1 Another pause is required
4 - Wait 2 seconds
5 - Enter PIN
6 - wait for a voice message to end
7 - Dial country/region code, area code, and number
Now for step # 7 I am not sure what the difference is between the "Dial
country/region code, ......" and the "Specify Digits" options. Where does the
"Dial Country/region code..." draw a phone number from? The "Specify Digits"
option is obvious.
Regardless what ever I do is not successful. I went into the help files and
found the following heading under "calling cards, using dialing rules:
I'm using dialing rules with calling cards but the calling card information
doesn't go through.
Cause: Calling card information is defined per user. The Fax service is
not running under the same user account as the calling card information.
Solution: Right-click My Computer, click Manage, click Services and
Applications, and then in the services list, double-click Fax. Click the Log
On tab, and set the Fax service to run under the calling card user account.
I did go into Manage>Services and Applications>Services>Fax and found that
it is not very well described and/or that straight forward or easy to deal
with, so I did not make an changes until I had more information.
The Microsoft Documentation for this setup is seriously lacking here, so any
help here will be greatly appreciated. I really need to get this resolved
because it is much cheaper to use the calling card than general long distance.
Thanks...
