It's not exactly a Word problem, and it might depend on what version of
Windows you're using. If you're in Windows XP, from your desktop, go to My
Computer. Then select the Tools menu and go down to Folder options. On the
View tab, unclick the "Hide extensions for known file types" box.

I'm not sure exactly how you'd do it in other versions of Windows, but the
logic will probably be similar.
