Hi all,

I use outlook express and as such appreciate Norton Antivirus' ability to
scan its incoming mail. However, I am really starting to dislike N.A.
scanning every local word doc or excel sheet I open, it slows down starting
word or excel hugely. Granted, my pc is a PII-450, but merely installing a
virusscanner should not relegate it to obsolescence.
I want the machine to only scan things as they come in (i.e. mail, download,
floppy), not the files that have checked out OK ages ago or 30 minutes ago.
I assume that, when receiving an email with a word or excel attachment N.A.
scans that word or excel file, no need to scan it again eonce its been
checked. Similarly I am not interested in scanning outgoing mail.
I am aware I can switch off scanning .doc or .xls files etc, but that
switches off scanning these files alltogether (and I would still like N.A.
to check incoming word and excel files. I would like to be able to turn off
scanning on certain events, like "when sending mail", or "when opening local
file", or something.

Can anyone tell me how to go about this?

Thanks and best regards,

BN
