I've already visited this location with no luck >

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040

All I want to do is share a folder with another computer via my home's
LAN.

The "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)" is not listed on my
computer anywhere either.

Can someone walk me through this please?

Which version of XP? In XP Pro, this value is listed in the "folder
options" tab of the control panel.
In XP Home, simple file sharing is all that there is.

Thus, how you proceed depends on which version you have.

On each WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be
able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall is
disabled on the internal LAN connection.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:

Not so. Simple file sharing is all you have. A reason that you can't see
the option is that XP Home supports nothing else.
You must use Guest authentication for mapping shares. For this to work, the
Guest account must be enabled.

I found the information in Help & Support hard to follow. I then switch to
the net command which you get at from the cmd command processor.
For instance, net share <and the other required parameters> creats a shared
resource. Net map <and the other required parameters> maps a remote shared
resource to a local resource.

To learn about these things, enter net ? at the cmd command prompt.
