I have been having the configuration utility message come up on my screen
everytime I boot the computer. I've tried starting in normal mode after
being requested to do so because it states that I am in selective/diaognostic
mode but that doesn't do anything, it keeps coming up no matter what, even
after rebooting several times. As to the operation of the system, it's fine
and I don't believe that it is in the mode the the message says. The problem
seems to have started after having a support technician taking remote control
of the system to do some trouble shooting for another program (HP). Do you
have any ideas about fixing this problem as it is very annoying.
Unfortuneatley the remote control link that he established was interrupted
and he never finished what he was doing and I was unable to get back to him.
He made some changes that included deactivating all microsoft services which
is all that I remember him doing while he was trouble shooting the HP
program. Could the system still be recoginizing him as the system admin.
and not allowing me to make necessary change to configuration utility to stop
this from coming up everytime I reboot?

Your computer is behaving as designed. The technician simply forgot to
tick the box on the dialogue box after rebooting that says in effect, "don't
bother me about this again". So all you need to do is tick the box. It is
in the lower left-hand corner.

I assume you are talking about the don't bother to show me this again box?
I've done that several times already and it still keeps coming up?

Possibly because you keep changing things? Under normal circumstances, if
you check that box and leave msconfig alone you won't be bothered any more.
See the general usage below:

Msconfig

It is always better to stop programs from starting with Windows from within
the programs themselves, so look in their Options before changing anything
with msconfig - you're just examining things at this stage. If a program
doesn't offer any way to control startup from its Preferences, then use
msconfig to uncheck the box next to its name, Apply and OK out.

Start>Run>msconfig [enter]

This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab and
find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply and OK
out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll
get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick the box that says in
effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop processes.
Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter] and do not stop any services
unless you really, really know what you're doing.
