Is it a configuration thing or a version thing?

Hi all, bit of a newbie question this:

When I send an email that contains an attachment, the "appearance" of the
location of the attachment seems to depend on the version of Outlook.

When I send it from our office system (still on Office 97) the attachment
appears as an icon within the body of the text.

When I send it from my home pc (Office 2003) there is an additional row in
the header (where I list addressee, CC, BCC, etc) for attachments, kept
separate from the body of the text that I am sending with the email.

How do I (indeed, can I) control the positioning within the display of the
email where the attachment appears? Is this restricted by the version of
Outlook, or within my control?

Thanks

Hi Jack,

It's actually something you can control and it's as simple as the format you
set as your default. You can choose plain text, rich text, or html. You can
set this in Tools / Options / Mail Format.

Both plain text and HTML handle the attachment as a line item in the email
and rich text will place the attached file icon in the body.

Just a note here on using rich text - it's specific to Outlook and other
email clients may not read it well. They may not even receive attachments
when sent.

It depends on the message body format. RTF, which is all that Outlook 97 supports, will have it inline. HTML and plain text will display attachments in a separate little pane.

It's a version thing and also a mail format thing.
