Does anyone know how to configure Windows Defender to stay out of Norton
Antivirus 2007 files? From time to time Windows Defender scans c:\Program
Files\NortonAntivirus and c:\Program Files\Symantec. Norton Antivirus blocks
the attempted scan: “Unauthorized access stopped”. During this process the
CPU resources are consumed at maximum rate rendering PC useless for running
other programs during these random twenty minute episodes. Symantec’s
technical response was to not use other antispyware programs, hence uninstall
Windows Defender.

Hello Solar,

You can't change the not yet classified (one just has to wait until spynet
classifies the item), but you could try the following:
In History note the exact path and file that is listed in the alert.
Then in Tools, Options, scroll down to Advanced options. Next to the box
click add, navigate to the path and file you noted, click OK.
You will no longer get an alert each time the software runs, although a log
will still be generated in event viewer.

Hi Engel,

Thanks - sounded easy but took a little effort adding each file. It was
"funny" because as i just got the last folder saved it started to do it
again, and I just had not yet had time to refresh Windows Defender after the
changes i made! I guess I'll just have to go look at the log viewer from
time to time to see what has been added and then add to list.

These were the files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Max\Local Settings\Temp\symlcsv1.exe (not found)
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AppCore\AppSvc32.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCAPP.EXE
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCLGVIEW.EXE
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCSVCHST.EXE
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\NPC\LoadOpts.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYMANTEC
SHARED\OPC\{31011D49-D90C-4DA0-878B-78D28AD507AF}\SSAutoRN.exe
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE
C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Navw32.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\AluSchedulerSvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\AUPDATE.EXE
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\LuCallbackProxy.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\LuComServer_3_1.EXE

Hi Engel,

I just read the log viewer, and it is still showing the same conflict with
the same files. However, the Task Manager's performance is not reflecting it
so i guess it must be working.

So--you are still getting errors logged, but not seeing any performance hit
while this is happening? I don't know what's going to happen with this
issue--I'm quite sure that both vendors involved are aware of the issue.
