I've been using successfully in the past the windows
movie maker to transfer my videos from my handy cam to
my laptop, with the use of the I link, the cable 1394.
Recently, it does not work any more, if I follow the same
procedure it stops transferring at 3K and although it
continues played on my computer screen, it does not
actually transfer anything and If I wait until the end
then I get the following messages: "the devices are not
configured properly", basically I guess there is no
compatibility between the windows movie maker and my sony
handy cam.

Please note that i've already contected the sony and my
computer manufactor but this is a windows movie maker
problem...
How can I fix it for good?
Thanks.

As you say it has been working succesfully in the past it is not a terminal
problem with movie maker, much more likely something has been added or
removed from the pc which is causing a conflict. Can you think of anything
you have done to teh pc wsince it previously worked properly?
