CONFIG_INITIALIZATION_FAILED error

I had been using win2k successfully for a long while when my keyboard and
mouse had a hardware failure once I got to the login screen. Since I
couldn't do anything in any way from this screen with no keyboard or mouse,
I turned off my computer, fixed the hardware problems ( had to do with bad
USB ports on my computer ) and booted again. I then received the dreaded:

CONFIG_INITIALIZATION_FAILED Stop: 0x0000067 ( 0x00000004, 0x00000007,
0x00000000, 0x00000000 )

error, which then came up every time.

Nothing to do about it but re-install win2k in the same partition and
specify a different system directory, winnntnew instead of winnt. This
worked and I am up and running on my new system with 2 menu items each
reading Win2000, the first the working system and the second the system with
the CONFIG_INITIALIZATION_FAILED error.

Needless to say, rather than re-install all my old software, drivers,
settings etc. onto my new system, I would like to somehow fix my old system
so that it boots properly, or somehow copy all my old system settings into
WINNTNEW so that my new system boots but has all the same settings of my old
system. Obviously if I do the latter, I don't want to copy the settings
which give me the CONFIG_INITIALIZATION_FAILED error, while if I do the
former I need to successfully replace whatever file(s) are giving me that
error with files from my new system.

Does anybody know how I can get back to my old system without the pain of
further CONFIG_INITIALIZATION_FAILED errors. I can access files in both
WINNT, my old system's windows directory, and WINNTNEW, my new system's
windows directory, from my new system.

You can create a bootable CD from this site by copying and
burning this ISO image and then you can boot from a CD and
recover your data and settings using the softwar etools
available on the boot CD.

The link to the site is:
<http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=44>

Hope it helps!
