Hi All,

I have this IBM X Series 225 server, LSI SCSI chips(with IM fuction) on
motherboard. I installed two IBM scsi harddisks for Windows 2000 server and
these two disks setup as hardware raid 1 (mirror).

I have questions about scsi mirror setup menu (LSI MPT IM). when I select
one disk as primary, another disk I can set as secondary or hotspare. I
don't any diffrence between secondary and hotspare, whitch one I should use
.. who can explain it to me. because I couldn't find any manual on IBM /LSI
for how to setup it.

Another question is recently Windows system crashed and displayed blue
screen. I checked mirror status, it displayed "Degraded", I also don't know
what is its meaning.

Any help.

Thank you very much

Jeff

Somehow I doubt you need an answer to this anymore... however for anyone
wondering the same thing.... here is the answer...

When setting up the LSI mirror... you would select one disk as the primary
and the 2nd disk as the secondary. IBM will support 3 configurations on
the LSI chipset..

1) Standard scsi setup (no mirror)
2) 2 drive mirror setup (primary and secondary)
3) 2 drive mirror with a hot spare (primary , secondary and spare)

The spare drive would do a rebuild if one of the 2 drives in a mirror
stopped working. In a 2 drive only setup.. setting a drive as primary and
one as hot spare... the hot spare would never do anything as it would need
a good working drive to rebuild from.

Hope all that makes sense 8)
