well, if you are experiencing
hard ware issues, installing / reinstalling
won't help resolve the corruption of
your system.
however, here are a couple of

win xp and getting sp2 updates.

if i recall, when windows finalizes
the installation process, it will ask
if you want to download updates.
you should probably say yes or
ok, instead of saying no and
then finalizing your windows
without the updates you are having
trouble downloading on your own...
however, if you are having modem
problems, then this may be the
source of the corruption you are
experiencing and connecting to the
net and downloading updates will
be impossible for you.
