My computer won't turn on the first time. My AC adapter is correctly plugged
in. My blue power light on my Toshiba laptop lights up, but the screen does
not come on. I have to hold the power button down to turn off the machine,
and then turn the computer on again. The second time the computer turns on
correctly. I am using Windows XP home edition.

Time for a service check. Either the screen is going flaky or
the connector to the screen. The cabling from the motherboard
through the hinges to the screen is a common, perennial problem
for most laptops.

It happened to me - every time I first went to switch on, everything lit up
then turned off.
Second or third press of the switch and all was OK.
The solution was highly technical and after advice from local compman I
managed to solve the problem.
The start button was staying 'in' - not coming out after pressing.
Apparently, it is the sort that only needs the slightest of touches to
activate - push it too far and it will switch off.
Hope this helps
