Computer won't stay off until unplugged

When I "Shut down" my Toshiba Satellite laptop running XP/SP3, it will power
off and then immediately power back on. To get it to stay off, I have to
interrupt the AC power by unplugging it. When I plug it back in, it will
stay off. This started about about two months ago, but I can't think of
anything I might have done at that time to start the problem.

Thanks for any assistance.

Come on, now, I may be computer-challenged, but I'm not illiterate! Yes, I
am hitting Turn Off.

Yes like something got toggled to wake up the computer to me. LAN, Wireless,
Modem or something. The BIOS setting has these options sometimes. And Device
Manager is another. Event logs should tell you why it is waking up I would
think.

If the computer is plugged into a network, check your WOL (Wake On LAN)
settings for your NIC and in the BIOS. If it is set to wake on activity, any
packet semt to the machine will wake it up.
