Computer won't shut down through start menu

's Computer Specifications

Whenever I click on Start and shutdown of my XP home
edition nothing happens. I have to shut down through
Ctrl>ALT>DEL. Any ideas on why this is happening and how
to resolve it? Was there an update for this that I missed?

Any help would be appreciated

I must apologize for my previous reply.... I did not notice that you didn't
say your system was Hanging... just wouldn't shutdown...

No sound when I start up my computer and when I shut it down I have to go to restart to start up the computer, then when it comes up I go down to start snd shut down mode then it will shut itself off.
