A computer virus that turns folders in to EXE files

My PC is infected with a virus that renames all files and folders as EXE
files and eventually makes the particular partition inaccessible. What is
this virus and how can I get rid of it. It has also infected my flash drive
and it does not now allow formatting. PLEASE HELP
