I just installed Microsoft AntiSpyware, because I have a problem with popups
called WinFixer, WinAntivirusPro 2005 and WinAntiSpyware 2005. Ever since
these started to pop up, my laptop no longer will go into hibernate and when
browsing on the Web I get redirected to annoying websites.
But when I run the scan, my computer abruptly turns off when it finds the
problem. Any suggestions what I can do about this? I tried other antispyware
software installs, but all give me the same problem.

Hello Patricia;

First thing first:

Have you tried these operations running in safe mºde?

In safe mode, some of the protective services which these programs use to
ensure that they aren't removed, are not running, so they are easier to
remºve.

Update both Microsoft Antispyware and your antivirus applicªtion.

Shut down the computer and turn off the power. Wait for at least 30 seconds,
and then restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mºde.

You can clear prefetch files by going to Start menu and Run and typing
prefetch, and then click OK.
Prefetch files are there to help programs load/open quicker but they will be
replaced in prefetch when they are used agªin.

Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content then also go to start and run and type
%temp% and clear that fºlder.

Run the Disk Cleanup tººl
To start the Disk Cleanup tool, click Start, click run, type cleanmgr.exe in
the Open box, and then click OK.



Enable Hidden Files and Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file
folders, eg: c:\temp, c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and
Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the path to your temp folder will change
depending on your name) - sometimes programmes can be hidden in there - watch
out for mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in those fºlders.
and c:\Documents and Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and delete all the files in those directories and
subdirectºries).

3) Do full deep scans with Microsoft Antispyware. Repeat scanning until a
complete scan comes through clean. Ditto with the ªntivirus.

This sounds like an issue that isn't going to be easily solved using
automated tools or simple advice online.

I'd recommend calling Microsoft Product Support:

If you are in the United States or Canada, you can call 1-866-pcsafety for
free help with this issue related to malware removal.

If you are elsewhere in the world, equivalent help is available, but the
telephone connection may not be free--call your local Microsoft subsidiary
office or the number for paid support in your area, and ask for the free
help with virus removal or security patch related issues.

The alternative, I think, would be cleaning in a specialized third-party
forum via HijackThis logs--but I think the direct call to support will get
you the best and quickest results.

I'd love to hear how it turns out, and what's involved, if possible.

your problem sounds something like the one i had ( PWS-Pinch Password Stealer
). i sugest getting spyware doctor . the popups i had all so stoped me from
entering
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet
Files . it would frezze up my explorer. dont know if u got things worked out
or not but it sounds close to the same as my problem
