A few days ago, my computer stopped accepting cookies all
together. I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE via a full
download package, I have dumped all my temp files and all
my cookies. I have changed the cookie option to every
possible setting, restarted numerous times in between each
change, even set numerous sites to manually override
cookie settings, and it still does not work. As of right
now, I am set to accept cookies from EVERYONE, and it
still will not create new cookies. I have gone so far as
to copy and modify cookies from another XP system I have
here, but it isn't working at all. I dread having to
backup 240gigs of data to do a reload, and was wondering
if anyone else had this problem and knew of a solution.

Try falling back to a known good working restore point in XP. If that fails,
try running a repair of XP. You'll need to reinstall all of your drivers,
but programs and data will remain intact.

Thanks for the link. I have tried the restore point, but
it didn't work. I guess I am just going to try to repair
the installation. Unfortunately, though, I am in the
hurricane path, so I won't delve into it until tomorrow
night or friday. I'll check back then and see if anyone
has encountered this problem.

Have you checked that your system date and time are correct?
If this is a cable modem connection that uses an Ethernet connection,
try booting to safe mode with networking and see if cookies will work
in that mode. If so, that means that there is something loading in normal
mode that is causing this issue. If cookies still don't work in safe mode
with networking, then it may be due to some missing or damaged files
or files that have lost their registration.
Do you have a third party firewall installed that may have some cookie
blocking component enabled?
Have you scanned your system with an Anti Spyware program?

Ad-aware 6.0 build 181

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.2
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10....html?tag=list

You could try running sfc /scannow from Start > Run
You will probably have to insert your XP CD and that utility will
check to see that all system files are in place.

Be aware that if you run a repair install of XP, it will revert your system
to the state of the XP CD that you run the reinstall from. That means
if you presently have XP SP1 installed and the XP CD does not include
SP1 then SP1 will be removed. Also all critical updates will be removed
including the more recent ones that deal with the vulnerability that the
msblaster worm and its variants exploit.
So if you do run a repair install, make sure that your third party firewall
is functioning or that the XP ICF is enabled and then download all
critical updates again. If you are not using a cable modem, you will
probably need to employ this article:
