computer shuts down when ext hard drive is connected

      28th Feb 2004
Ive been trying to install an external hard drive (western
digital 80 gb usb2), windows sees it but then shuts down
and starts up again, reaches to were i log in and then
shuts down again.
So as i cannot install how do i get to change the format
from fat 32 to ntfs etc.etc.
What am i doing wrong? could anyone please help.

KB article 823086 talks about this. Looks like you need to get a hotfix
from MS.

It probably doesn't have anything to do with the formatting on the
drive. Its more likely a W2000 or driver issue.
