I installed XP and I get online but then after a minute or
so I get this menu box saying computer will shut down by
NT Authority/System and below this it says, Message:
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) terminated unexpectedly.
Any advice how to fix this?

You have the w.32 Blaster virus.
Microsoft has a fix in their virus section
Mcaffee and Norton also have a fix
