My Vista Home Premium computer was going to sleep fine until I changed
something or one of the updates did something. Now no matter what I set the
power settings at or the screensaver at, the screensaver just keeps running.
It will not go to sleep after the set time I have entered. I have the
computer set to run screensaver at 10 minutes, the monitor to shut down at 15
minutes and the computer to sleep at 25 minutes. It simply runs the
screensaver for an indefinate amount of time.

No, I am using a mouse that plugs into USB port. Another thing I'm currently
testing is not requiring password upon wake up. I think this may have been
when it stopped going into sleep mode is when I changed this setting. It's
hard to know for sure.

Changing the password settings didn't change anything. I think it was about
a week ago when I installed updates that it started this problem. Otherwise,
it was sleeping just fine.

After trying many changes on settings, I've just changed the screensaver from
rotating through my Pictures folder and changed it to 3D Text. It just went
into sleep mode as it should have. I'm going to try to change it back to
Pictures and see if this will repeat the problem I was having or if it was
just a one-time glitch.

Strange. you got me thinking about it so i started to play around a little
with my system. i reloaded and installed the cordless mouse again. found
that after it would not go to sleep still, i made a new power saving setup
after i reinstalled mouse and it worked goes to sleep.

you are running a corded mouse so that is not what you are running into. but
maybe try setting up a new power save after you set up your screen saver from
your photos folder.

I tried changing the setting of the current power plan used after changing
the screensaver back to Photos. That didn't work. I tried setting up a new
plan called "Using Photos" and this didn't work. I also tested some other
settings in screensaver options like from classic to fade. None of these
things work. It is definitely a problem with the screensaver Photos. If I
change it to anything else then it works correctly.

I tried to put my computer to sleep while using photos as a screen saver,
Mine does not sleep as well, Must be the way that option works that the
computer thinks you are changing photos yourself.

whether it's video driver or what i am not sure. But it goes to sleep with
all other formats. very strange. (note) i also played with my laptop
samething. will not sleep with photo screen saver. Strange because it will
hibernate even with a program running if you do not move the mouse or key
stroke, But not with photo screen save just keeps on going!!

I've had the same problem and have been able to pinpoint Screensaver
Photo as the issue.

My PC will not sleep when the Photo Screensaver is on. It will go to
sleep when the screensaver is off.

Maybe MS will fix the bug!

you are correct gary, photo saver is the problem. i am not sure thats its a
bug it just might be programed not to sleep while photosaver is engaged. i
found same thing with a slide show running.
