My friend at work was complaining that his computer wont run Doom3, even on the low settings its real jerky, he has An AMD64 3000 with and FX5500 256MB and a GIG of DDR ram, i would have thought this would run fairly decently on the low settings but think maybe it's the card that's not up to the job? he has about £250 to spend and i reccomended this card to him

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=62510

I think that this will sort out all of his problems

Any ideas advice would be appreciated thanks Boomer.

He should be looking at a 6800GT to be playing Doom 3 well, you wont find a better card in the price range for it .

I've got the X850XT PE and it plays Doom III quite happily, but as Reef says, I do believe the 6800GT is the best for Doom III specifically.

Check this out.
I'm with Reef on this too...my 6800Gt allows me to turn most doom 3 settings up and it plays very smooth.

Make sure you get the latest drivers though m8

Windows is now a 64 bit tweak of a 32 bit extension to a 16 bit user interface for an 8 bit operating system based on a 4 bit architecture from a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition...So why the hell have I bought Vista?...OK so Win 7 is pretty good now.

Wow, Ian you got a X850 XT?! Nicely Done!
but dont you think you could have gotten a X800 XT and OCed it a measly 20 MHz? you could have save 20 pounds.

Yeah, I was quite happy with my 9800 to be honest, but I was building a PC for someone and ended up getting 2 off the shelf Dells and mixing and matching components for 2 PCs (one mine and one theirs). Ended up with their machine cheaper than they wanted (not after gaming), and I ended up with a better graphics card

The X800 and the X850 are both different cores, the R420 and the R480. So even overclocking the X800XT to X850XT speeds would not make it as fast .
