What is a Computer Registry?

You may have heard the term computer registry but not know what it
means. This article defines the term and outlines some common problems
your registry may develop.
What it is: Your computer sets aside some space on its hard drive in a
place called a registry. This is used for storing information about
the operational settings of your computer, such as user profiles,
system details, and application-specific information. You can think of
it as a kind of electronic notepad that your computer uses to remember
important information about its own operation at the system level.
Information is constantly being written to and then deleted from your
computer registry.
What can go wrong: Given all of this activity at such an important
level of your computer's regular operations, registry errors can and
do occur frequently. This is an extremely common problem and it is
likely that most computers have at least a few registry errors. For
example, when you remove a program, this action might accidentally
delete or overwrite data that is vital to the smooth operation of your
system. In addition to errors, registries on computers that are more
than a year old can start to build up a cache of essentially useless
data that in effect clogs up your system....

I'm not going to totally wreck my computer by running your program, thanks.
Neither should anyone else.

He is an ignorant spammer too - he tries to sound like an expert yet he does
not know the difference between a "Computer" and "Windows".

Micosoft have now purged the original message but I recall that the spammer
made several statements such as "The registry is a file created by the
computer". This is plain wrong. It's not the computer that creates/maintains
the registry - it is Windows. Other operating systems use different methods
that may not be registry-based. The mistake suggests that the spammer's
expertise is of a selling rather than a technical nature - and it's snake
oil he's pushing.

Well, it looks like the subject was created by you, because Google
Groups has no history on the thread other than your starting post.

I can assure you you are mistaken. Pegasus merely changed the subject
from
"What is a Computer Registry?"

Not at all - the original spam was probably deleted by some automatic
Microsoft process before you read it. This particular spammer tries to flog
his registry cleaner about once every week. Don't worry - you didn't miss
anything.

How am I "mistaken" when I say that the ONLY post I can find on this
matter is the one by Pegasus on Google Groups.

I am NOT "mistaken" because I am stating a FACT.

Whether or not he changed the subject or started a new thread is
irrelevant.

Butt out, bozo.
