I have a Win XP SP2 PC (Gateway P4, 2.2 GHz, 1GB RAM). Recently, it
unexpectedly either powers-down or gets into a stand-by mode and requires to
re-plug the power cord to reboot.

I do not see anything in the event log, and do not get a blue screen during
the crash (although it is set to create a dump). I have seen a couple of
postings from users having the same issue, but the responses were
inconclusive.

Any ideas?

YES, I HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WHY?
TO USE MICROSOFT UPDATE TO WIN XP SP2 (GENUINE). MY WIN XP WAS 80% WIN
VISTA. THE DRIVERS WERE NOT MORE COMPATIBLE WITH WIN XP. SO I HAD CRASH,
REBOOT, BLUE SCREEN, ETC,ETC,ETC.. SO, I CHANGED MY WIN XP TO WIN VISTA. NOW
DON`T HAVE MORE PROBLEM. I MAKE TOTAL UPDATE, NOW ALL MY SOFT ARE COMPATIBLE
WITH MY OPERATIONAL SYSTEM. MY OPINION: YOU DON`T WANT WIN VISTA, CLEAN YOUR
HD BUT IF YOU USE MICROSOFT UPDATE THE PROBLEM RETURN, ABOUT SIX MONTH.
