Make sure that you actually deleted the CD image (empty the Recycle Bin) and
then defragment your hard drive. Go to My Computer, right-click your C: drive and then click "Tools" and then click "Defragment Now" Got to "Gord" wrote: > I tried to copy a CD and the image file jammed up my 4o g harddrive. Adam, thanks for the reply. I already did these things. I couldn't find the
image file and don't know if it is gone or not. "Adam" wrote: > Make sure that you actually deleted the CD image (empty the Recycle Bin) and > then defragment your hard drive. How large is your hard drive and how much free space?
To investigate how you are using hard disk space you need to make sure that you can see all files. Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total Size, and Free Space. You still will not see the System Volume Information folder. How to Gain Access to the System Volume Information Folder http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;309531 FileSize -a useful tool for use with Windows Explorer when investigating how disk space is being used. http://markd.mvps.org/ The download link is not obvious. Click the here in the two sentences of the web page accessed through the link above. "I can't count the number of times someone has asked for this. So here is a module you can install that shows a Folder Size column in Explorer." To increase you free space on your C select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System Restore points? Restore points can be quite large. You should use Disk CleanUp regularly to Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Gerry, thanks for getting back to me. I have a 40 gig HD with 72 % free
space. I did what you said and it seems to have helped a bit. At this time I am using Norton utilities but will be switching to McAfee shortly. Both Norton and McAfee are infamous for creating performance issues on computers which have limited memory and CPU. You might consider AVG. A change definitely helps with your system performance. Lower overheads. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/FAQ Disk space does not seem to be your problem. How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak? What is your CPU processor speed? Right click on your My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get this information and the amount of RAM memory. Another avenue of enquiry is the Event Viewer System log. Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and Application logs for the last boot and post copies. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...308427&sd=tech Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further information. http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp (Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only) A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. -- Hope this helps. I have tried to resolve Event ID: 4609 before without success. How are you connected to the internet? Modem, router or whatever? Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware, Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code? Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked. I found these references for Event ID:1015. Event ID 1015 is logged in the Application log when you use the OHotFix program to install Office updates http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907341/en-us http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...717621033.aspx Does the second link ring any bells? For Event ID: 7023 please copy whatever appears in the link in the original Error Report like so. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp There are similarities between your problem and this thread I was involved with: http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q...=2006&safe=off Short url http://snipurl.com/mj07 -- Hope this helps. Gerry, thanks again. Sorry for the delay getting back to you. For some reason
I was unable to get onto the site. Anyway, I am running on cable modem with a router. I checked the signature list and have 86 files unsigned.
