New one to me this!! I have four pc's all XP on a peer to peer network
that have worked well for over a year now. There is ICS for an ADSL
connection on the primary workstation which works well. However,
recently when the primary pc's shared folder is accessed by any of the
other three pc's it just restarts like when you press the reset
button. The other three can share files and folders fine its just the
primary shared folder that has the problem. I have tried creating
other folders to share on this pc and the same thing happens.
Absolutely stumped!! All the pc's have Zone Alarm installed and
configured for ICS , even when ZA is switched off it still happens.
Any suggestions welcomed ort similar experiences, let me know guys.

Gary,

Do you see any diagnostic messages in the Event Log when this happens?

How current is your spyware and virus protection?

Do an online virus check:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/vc_about.asp

Check for spyware. Use HijackThis, Spybot S&D, and expert advice at
SWI Forums (all free). Complete instructions are available at:
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=5187

Is ZA installed on the primary workstation? Un install it totally,
following carefully un install procedures from the vendor. ZA is
known for bad behaviour, disabling it is frequently non productive. I
personally used to use ZA long ago, and I experienced system lockups
and reboots periodically.

If you're using ADSL, consider getting a NAT router ($30 - $50) and
disabling ICS on the primary workstation.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
