Okay my computer was running fine last night and this morning when I turned
it on it just sat there with the black mircrosoft sceen and would not open up
the blue screen with users on it. It would also not shut down either. I did
manual turn it off and when the screen came up I opened it in safe mode.
Which it will run on, but I did try and restart it and it froze again on the
black screen.
Anyone have any advice or know whats causing this? And anything I can do to
fix the problem? We just go a new hard drive about a year ago, so I hope
thats not it...
Thanks for any help out there!!!!

Try to restore operation of Windows XP by using the Last Known Good
configuration. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start the computer, and then press the F8 key when Windows begins to
start. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
2. Use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most
recent settings that worked), and then click OK.
3. If a start menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows
XP, and then click OK

Or
Use the System Restore tool

For additional information about System Restore, click Help and Support on
the Start menu. In the Search box, type system restore, and then click OK.

Start in safe mode click start /run and type msconfig
(if it wont make it to the login page its probably a service thats causing
all the problems)
click on the services tab and check the hide all microsofts services
checkbox and clear the ones you dont need. And restart
To pinpoint which service it is you will have to stop one at a time.
Hope this helps
