Computer will not enter Stand By or Hibernate Modes

My computer will not enter stand by mode. It says a device
COM1 is preventing it from entering this mode. I disabled
COM1, and got the same message with COM2. I have removed
and reinstalled these drivers. I have also Disabled the
driver for my Creative Labs 56KModem. However the problem
continues.

Besides the modem, the only other card in the computer is
the Adaptec SCSI controller and a Cable Modem.

How do I trouble shoot this issue?
