Computer lockup

When I got this computer it was great. It was running on windows ME, then after a year it started locking up on me when I would log on to the internet. I have tryed most everything I could think of. A new ext 56k modem, new video card and changed the hard drive. I even formated and installed windows XP. It runs better now but it still locks up every now and again when i'm on line. This is an HP pavilion if that helps. My other computer dose not do this why should this one?
