It's a brnad new computer but it already had windows vista home basic loaded
on it, so whatever browser came on it is what I am using. I tried downloading
IE7 but it locked up too, so I really don't know what version of browser is
on here and there is no error message. And it says all my drivers are updated
according to windows.

If you are running VISTA you are running IE7.

Have you looked in "Problem Reports and Solutions"

If you open the start bar and in the search box type

problem

You will see Problem Reports and Solutions unde rthe programs heading. open
that and see what it can tell you about your situation. Report the problems
to microsoft and see if any solutions popup for you.

In the left side of this program you will see the link "View Problem
History" open that link

find internet explorer in that list and right click on the listing and
select "View Problem Details"

On the bottom of the page that pops up select the link to copy to clipboard.
and paste the results back here for us to look at. Do this for each error
listed.

Vista comes with it's own version of IE7. I don't believe there is a
download for the Vista version of IE. Did you download and try to install
IE7 for XP?

i think im experiencing similar problems, system hangs on random moments
(have already reinstalled vista a couple of times on diff drives etc) and
when it has some intensive networking like torrents it will hang sooner
without doing much it can stay working for like 1,5 a day, but sometimes just
by watching a movie or clicking a button system totally freezes , event
report doesnt say anything except unexpected reboot. problems and sollutions
doesnt report a thing about this.

tried all kinds of drivers for vid card, sataII disk sound, none helped,
tried with just the drivers windows provided through install.

have a amd 3500 + 2.2 ghz (single core) 64x
2gb ram, 40gb ide, 250 sata geforce 7600 GT (integrated network works, old
ethernet cant find any drivers, same as for sound only integrated works with
high def drivers.

I could assume it might have to do with data being procesed at the time. but
there s no pattern really. if installing a vista approved (drivers for vista)
ethernet adapter could work i might try that, already upgraded to 2 gb

I purchased a new computer two weeks ago with Windows Vista Home Premium
preinstalled, specs are: Intel@Core 2 Duo E4300, 2GB DDRLL Ram, 250GB SATA
HDD, DVD RW Dual, Double Layer.
I am experiencing problems similar to what everyone else is, only my system
freezes and doesn't allow me acess to the keyboard, mouse or reboot. I can
turn the system off and back on but all I get is a floating information box,
that acts like a screen saver, stating, "information not supported". The
first time it happened when I was trying to set the resolution, I had to take
the computer back to the dealer who reset the resolution to default. It has
just happened again when I was trying to resize the screen size. I can not
access anything other than the on and off button which is about where my
frustration level is right now.
I have a bigger concern because I need to transfer the files and programs
from my old computer (which I am using to write this) to the new one a.s.a.p.
as I'm on a time frame which is already messed up with this problem.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to overcome this problem so that I can
start the computer up, right now I'm looking at a rather dead looking black
screen and computer which have gone into hybernation. Help, please!

Marion

Marion, both instances you document could mean a problem with the video
driver. What is the computer model, and what kind of video system - card
make/mode, or on board graphics?

How did the dealer fix it the first time? Have you looked for an update
video driver?

A new system should not have these kinds of problems.

FYI next time create a new thread with your issue, rather than posting as a
reply to someone else's thread, and include more relevant info such as the
specs on the system.

bought a new hp pavilon complete with Vista home premium have exactly the
same problem locks for no reason . This seems to be a common problem. The
standard response appears to be check the drivers
According to the sytsem all driver are up to date.
It would appear to be a Vista problem.
Everyone else I know who bought a machine with vista has had XP INSTALLED
INSTEAD.
Was thinking of buying an iMAC wish I had .
Vista is a big let down.
