Hi All,

Have a problem. I reinstalled windows 2000 Pro and the machine keeps
rebooting. This is a new installation. What could be wrong? It gets to the
point of almost the login, but then just reboots and I get the strike f1 to
reboot or f2 for setup utility. Seems I can get in in safe mode? Any
suggestions

As always check Event Viewer for errors. When you view the logged events in
Event Viewer (double-click them in the right-hand pane) in the upper right
corner, third button down is a copy to clipboard, then you can paste in the
body of a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

Also check Device Manager for error codes and or non-starting devices.

Hi Nic,
Boot into the safe mode. open the registry editor. Go to
Hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\crashcontrol key and
change the value of autoreboot to 0. Probably, your system is bugchecking. By
changing the value of the autoreboot option, the system won't reboot if there
is a bugcheck and then you can read out the exact error code you are getting.

No need to hack the registry. To be able to see the blue screen stop
message; Control Panel|System|Advanced|Startup and Recovery, uncheck
"Automatically reboot" this way you get a chance to read the stop error.

Yeah. Correct. Though making this change in the registry and unchecking the
auto reboot option means the same, Dave is right in saying that we should not
fiddle with registry.
