There is more than one way to do things. Did you try system restore? Also
look in the C:\Windows folder for the the folders labeled
$NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$. Those are the uninstall folders for updates
installed through Windows/Automatic updates. Look at the Date modified for
those installed on the date in question. Using that list now go to
Add/Remove programs and remove the one(s) installed on that date, then do a
system restore to the restore point made before this update was applied.
After the system is running, turn off automatic updates. Go to the windows
update site, do a custom scan and install the updates one at a time. One
person posted in here having a problem after installed a group of updates,
but no problems, after they were all removed, with installing them one at a
time.
If one update still causes a problem then after removing it per the previous
procedure, go back to windows update, do a custom scan, and hide that
update, then research why it's causing the problem and any work arounds.
There is a windows update newsgroup which is a good place to go for issues
related to updates from windows update.
