.....and takes ages to boot.
I have tried disabling all of the start up processes in msconfig but this
makes no difference. I have XP home with all updates etc. applied. It takes
about 5 minutes to boot on an AMD Athlon 1800 when it used to take about a
minute. When running, the mouse is often jerky as well. Applications such as
OE and IE6 take about three times longer to load.
Have tried running bootvis, have defragged, checked the bios for anything
obvious but all to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions where else I could look I'd appreciate it.

Hi Rupert,

You didn't mention having run a virus scan on that system.

1) Run a Virus Scan: http://housecall.antivirus.com/
2) Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to remove any Trojans, Adware, or Spyware
