the computer hangs everytime i right click an icon

Hi, I'm using Windows XP. I'm having trouble when I right click my mouse on
my desktop icon such as my computer or recycled bin or any shortcut link, the
system will hang indefinitely.

If I left click my mouse, the application will open normally.. Can anyone
please advise me what is wrong and how to solve this??

it also hangs everytime i press the ctrl key while an icon is being selected. i can't copy an icon nor look at its properties.

i cannot also press delete button to delete an icon and ofcourse right click delete it too.
