Ah, thanks for explaining the terminology.
Understand, this is really an issue Peachtree should address.
Ordinarily I would suspect the issue is simply one of compatibility with XP
but since it started with 98 it would appear it is a conflict with something
else installed on your system. That could be hardware or software. If this
was not always an issue on 98, perhaps you might try to recall when this
issue began and what you might have installed just prior to the beginning of
the issue.
Other things to try:
Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors that correspond to when this issue occurs, double click the error,
the information contained within may point to the source of the issue.
When you tab over, to where does it save the data?
Trying to source this issue given what I outlined above means removing
software and hardware one item at a time and then checking to see if you
still have the issue. I'd start with software unless you can recall some
change you might have made on your 98 setup, especially something you
carried over to Windows XP, after which this error started to appear.
Other things to you can do. Since this is an upgrade and not a new
computer, be sure your antivirus is up to date and run a virus scan. I'm
dubious that this is a virus but it's best to rule it out.
Download, install and run Ad Aware:
www.lavasoftusa.com It is possible that something you've installed on your
system is the source of this issue and the most innocuous seeming of
applications can sometimes install items that can wreak havoc, Ad Aware
might pick something up, again, this is a good precaution.
Finally, system hangs are often the result of dated or corrupt drivers.
Check the manufacturer's websites of all your device for the latest drivers,
especially your graphics card and soundcard. Do not rely on Windows Update
for this, check the manufacturer's websites.
